Positionality Statement

As a mental health professional and researcher, I recognize that my background shapes my perspectives and interactions. I am a cisgender, heterosexual, white woman from a middle-class background, which affords me certain privileges and influences my worldview.

My formal education in psychology has been predominantly Western-centric, so I have actively sought to expand my understanding through diverse cultural perspectives. I acknowledge that my experiences shape how I view mental health, and I am committed to continuous learning and self-reflection to better serve all clients. This includes ongoing education, consultation with diverse colleagues, and meaningful engagement with the communities I serve.

I recognize the systemic barriers within mental health and broader society and am committed to advocating for equity and social justice. This means addressing power dynamics, biases, and ensuring culturally responsive care. In my research, I aim to contribute in a way that is inclusive, ethical, and reflective of diverse experiences, amplifying voices that have historically been marginalized.

By acknowledging my positionality, I remain mindful of how my background influences my work and continually strive for greater empathy, inclusivity, and impact.
